Our Need His Story

finger of God Sunday evening kicked off our study in the book of Luke. The focus of the evening was on the Christmas Story which is really a smaller portion of a bigger story called “The Gospel”. We are in a time of year where many people are celebrating the Christmas Story but missing the “why” of it. Why did Jesus need to come? Why did that little baby need to die 33 years later? Why are we still so happy about the Incarnation (God taking on the form of man)?

Why? Because we are all sinners who have fallen short of the glory of God. We can’t dig our way out, we can’t pay it off, we can’t do enough good deeds to tip the scales in our favor. We are lost and in a hopeless state. Until Jesus. He lived a perfect life, He never sinned, He never had to die. But He chose to die a horrible death and took all of our sins on His shoulders. Because of His sacrifice all we need to do now is repent of our sins, believe on Christ for our salvation, and we will be saved!

Challenge your walk this week.
For those that don’t have a personal relationship with Christ –
This Christmas, as you look at the manger scene take the time to contemplate the fact that your sin will send that little baby willingly to a cross. Is your need covered by His sacrifice?

And for those of you who have already surrendered your life to this little baby –
I challenge you then to share the Christmas story, and our need for it, with those around you that do not know Jesus. There are many needs we aim to meet, but let’s not forget the most important: the need for a Savior.
