Water Giveaway

By 9:30 a.m., as Coram Deo-ites began to gather at the Meek’s for coffee, the temperatureBeth getting jazzed on some great coffee outside began to rise. The coffee and espressos were as strong as the sun that started to beat down, 75 degrees at 9am, 85 degrees by 11am and peaking at 98 degrees for the day and not a cloud in the sky. “Perfect weather, maybe too hot though,” said one of the 20-some “volunteers” that lined a popular recreation path in Southeast Reno. “The forecast is close to 100 and we may have missed the majority of walkers,” said another “volunteer.”

The swingersDecked out in their beige “Volunteer” t-shirts, Coram Deo families,Susan excited about giving away FREE Water college students, men, women and kids gathered at two locations in Reno’s Southeast neighborhoods to hand out free bottles of water. The walkers and bikers that did brave the dry Nevada heat were very appreciative of the complimentary water. One vehicle even stopped to take advantage of the free water offer. The driver couldn’t believe that a church would be standing out in the hot sun handing out free water on a Sunday morning!

Audrey and her father enjoying a beautiful 98 degree day in Reno...HOTAs the morning progressed, we realized that it was only getting hotter and people were not venturing out of their homes so it was time for a family picnic. We fired up the grill and roasted up some hot dogs, gulped some soda and munched on chips. We shared stories from our morning of handing out water, shared some laughs and had a fun time. That’s what is so great about serving together as a family, we can meet the need of a perfect stranger (a simple Eddie and Luke enjoying their hotdogs, yum!bottle of water with a card attached saying “God loves them”) and at the same time get to know the person next us. The bonds between servants are strong and that’s what makes Coram Deo so special. So if you live in Reno come and join us on our next Servant adventure and see what happens when you share the love of Jesus through a gesture that is so foreign to most people in this country, a simple act of kindness without asking for anything in return. We are praying it becomes contagious.
Did we say the Water was FREE?
