The second annual Reno AIDS Walk was held on Saturday, August 25th and Coram Deo was there representing Christ’s love through humble service. Coram Deo’s roughly 20 volunteers comprised the majority of the event’s volunteer help, which we hope was a real blessing to the event organizers and participants.
Coram Deo-ites helped in many ways including: food booth set-up, inflating (and over-inflating!) balloons and marking the course with them, handing out water at the beginning and end of the walk, marshaling the course turn-around as well as post-event clean up. And of course we struck up conversations with as many people as we could.
Coram Deo also fielded an elite group of walkers that ripped the 2-mile course up in 28 minutes and 54 seconds. Not bad for a group of baby pushing moms that spent more energy chatting with each other than focusing on stride-length and controlled breathing. As one of the best looking and talent-packed teams fielded in this year’s event, paparazzi were following the Coram Deo team around like they were Chris Isaac and his
stunning dance team coming out of the Nugget after a night of exciting entertainment. As one of the photographers asked, “Who are you guys?” “We’re from the church called Coram Deo. “Oh, you’re the church who brought all the volunteers!” Although, it’s nice when people recognize our service in the community, it’s not the reason we get out there. The reason we do it is so our Lord Jesus is glorified in our actions.
