United Blood Services (UBS) praised us for the number of donors we had at our last blood drive. We wanted to do even better this time. UBS even sent us an extra tech. The bloodmobile was ready to go in front of Wal-Mart at 10:00am and we stayed there for four hours.
UBS received 27 units of blood; that’s three more than last time. Some were from Coram Deo, but many were shoppers who signed up on the spot. Several people were able to give a double donation, including Pastor Dawson.
Nichole, a Coram Deo-ite, was one of our first-time donors. She overcame her nervousness by peeking in the bloodmobile and asking other people questions about what it’s like. Nichole said the worst was part was the finger prick (used to measure iron in the blood). After donating, she acted like it was a piece of cake.
We also handed balloons to children and gave away 500 cards encouraging people to give blood at a later time.
