Coram Deo

Recap: Free Car Wash ’08

Dave's job was to drive the traffic to the car wash.

The free car wash went great. Dave and Jose found themselves the only car washers that day which could have been discouraging, but they pressed on and found it to be a blessing.
They weren’t sure how it was going to work out exactly. Dave decided to wave the sign for the free car wash and Jose would approach them with a strange request: “I’d like to wash your car for free.”

Several cars pulled in thinking it was a promotion by Capitol Car Wash and that the guys just worked there. The guys cleared up the confusion, saying they were there because of Jesus’ love. When a few folks balked at the idea of having a stranger serve them for free, Dave offered to just pay for their $2.00 wash.

People we met

Jose was able to get into significant conversations with a couple of guys. One young man, Walter, moved up to Reno six months ago to help his mom out. He was looking forward to moving back to southern California some day, but he was glad to have met some nice people. He said, “It’s nice to see good people getting it done.”

Perhaps a little too happy about washing cars.

Another guy who pulled up in a truck didn’t realize it was free because of Jesus. When he learned who was behind the free car wash, he shared that his brother could use some prayer and that he himself should get himself to church soon.

Some people didn’t speak much English, but appreciated the help in washing their car. It’s not likely this will cause any of them to come to Coram Deo. But the opportunity to serve a stranger in a small way because of the love of Christ makes it worth doing.
